Indian equity markets BSE and NSE will be closed for trading on Tuesday, March 3, due to the Holi holiday. Although the exchanges have declared Tuesday a holiday, the festival of colors will be celebrated in large parts of the country on Wednesday, March 4.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), the country's largest non-agricultural commodity exchange, will be closed for trading between 9 am and 5 pm in the morning session,

Stock Market Holiday List for the Year 2026

In the holiday calendar released last year, exchanges initially announced 15 trading holidays, but later added January 15 as an additional holiday due to the Mumbai BMC elections.

Subsequently, domestic markets were closed on January 26 for Republic Day. Equity markets are closed on two other occasions in March: Thursday, March 26, for Sri Rama Navami and Tuesday, March 31, for Sri Mahavir Jayanti.

The next holiday will be on Friday, April 3, which is Good Friday. Markets will also be closed for Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, Maharashtra Day on May 1, and Bakrid on May 28.

The second half of the year includes Muharram on June 26, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Dussehra is on October 20, followed by Diwali, Balipratipada on November 10, and Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 24. The last trading holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25.

A small surprise in the circular is that there is no mention of the Diwali holiday, as it falls on a weekend (Sunday).

Muhurat trading will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, and the timings will be announced later. Exchanges may make changes to any of the above holidays, for which a separate circular will be issued in advance.

The stock market has been falling for two consecutive days.
