Former Raymond chairman Vijaypat Singhania passes away; last rites to be performed in Mumbai today

Gautam Singhania's father and former chairman of the Raymond Group, Vijaypat Singhania, has passed away at the age of 87. A Raymond Group spokesperson said Vijaypat Singhania passed away in Mumbai and his funeral will be held today.

Former Raymond Chairman Vijaypat Singhania passed away in Mumbai on Saturday evening. He was 87 years old. Gautam Singhania, Vijaypat Singhania's son and the group's current Chairman and Managing Director, 

shared the news of his death on the social media platform Instagram. A Raymond Group spokesperson said Singhania died in Mumbai and his funeral will be held today (Sunday).

Vijaypat Singhania, a Padma Bhushan awardee, was also an accomplished pilot and held the world record for the highest altitude achieved in a hot air balloon. He served as Raymond's chairman for two decades, until 2000.

Legal dispute with son Gautam

After handing over the reins to Gautam, Vijaypat Singhania transferred his entire 37 percent stake in the company to his son. A few years ago, Vijaypat Singhania and his son Gautam had a legal dispute, but they later resolved the matter.

Funeral in Mumbai today

Gautam Singhania said in his post that the funeral service will be held today at 1:30 pm at Haveli, LD, Ruparel Marg, Mumbai, followed by the last rites at Chandanwadi on Sunday at 3 pm.

Achievements of Vijaypat Singhania

Vijaypat Singhania was known for his long association with the Raymond Group, where he served as Chairman and Managing Director from 1980 to 2000. 

Under his leadership, the company became one of India's leading textile and apparel brands. Apart from business, Singhania is known for his achievements in the field of aviation.

Record made by flying a hot air balloon

In 2005, he set a world record by reaching an altitude of over 21,000 meters in a hot air balloon, an achievement that brought him international fame. He also won an international air race and has been an active promoter of aviation sports in India.

Received the title of Air Commodore

In recognition of his contributions to aviation, he was awarded the rank of Honorary Air Commodore in the Indian Air Force in 1994. 

He has also received numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan, for his contributions to industry and adventure sports.
