Big news has emerged from India for smartphone brand OnePlus. The company's India CEO, Robin Liu, has resigned from his position. 

This decision comes at a time when the company is undergoing significant changes globally. This change could prove challenging for OnePlus in a key market like India.

Robin Liu's resignation a surprise?

Robin Liu's departure is being considered a major blow to OnePlus. He took over at a time when OnePlus was going through a difficult period in India. 

Amidst disputes with retailers and a potential exit from the market, Liu took charge of the company and revived it. Under his leadership, the brand made a comeback, so his resignation comes as a surprise to the industry.

Global restructuring and internal changes

According to reports, OnePlus is currently undergoing a global restructuring. 

As a result, Robin Liu was asked to report to Sky Li, who now oversees sub-brands within the Oppo Group. Previously, both handled their respective brands equally. This change signals a major shift in the power structure within the company.

Growing challenges in India

In India, OnePlus is facing stiff competition from companies like Samsung and Vivo. The company's hold on the flagship segment appears to be weakening. 

Furthermore, OnePlus is closing several stores to focus on higher profits. This strategy clearly reflects the brand's current situation.

Further strategy and new launches

Robin Liu's last working day is reported to be May 31, 2026, and he has now returned to China. The company has acknowledged his contributions and wished him well for the future. 

Meanwhile, OnePlus is preparing to launch its new device, the OnePlus Nord 6, in India on April 7, 2026. 

This phone will come with a Snapdragon processor and a dual camera setup, with which the company will attempt to strengthen its market presence.
