Amazon AWS Data Center: UAE scorched by Iran-Israel conflict, Amazon data center damaged
US Israel Iran Tensions: Following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, Iran's retaliatory missile and drone attacks have escalated tensions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These attacks have affected UAE airports, ports, and residential areas. Recently, a fire broke out at AWS's Dubai data center, disrupting services.
The US and Israel's continued attacks on Iran have created a tense atmosphere, with all three countries suffering losses. Recently, Amazon's cloud unit, AWS, reported that power to the company's
data center in the United Arab Emirates had to be temporarily shut down after objects struck the center, causing sparks and a fire. Following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, the UAE is grappling with retaliatory missile and drone attacks from Iran.
Iran's attacks have targeted airports, ports, residential areas across the country and large parts of the Gulf. When Reuters asked AWS whether the incident at the data center was related to the strike,
the company neither confirmed nor denied it. AWS said that at approximately 4:30 a.m. PST, one of our availability zones (mec1-az2) was impacted by an object that struck the data center, causing sparks and a fire.
AWS said the fire department cut power to the site while crews worked to extinguish the fire. The data center operator said it would take several hours to restore connectivity in the affected zone, and that normal operations were occurring in other zones in the UAE.
What is Data Center: What is a data center and what does it do?
To put it simply, a data center is a secure location (building or room) that houses a large number of servers, computing devices, and data storage equipment. In terms of how it works, it performs tasks such as data storage, data processing, networking, and application hosting.
That peaceful image was shattered on Saturday when Iranian weapons struck Dubai, setting fire to a five-star resort, threatening the world's tallest building and killing one person and wounding seven others at the airport in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
Iran has attacked the UAE in response to a major offensive by US and Israeli forces, sowing fear and panic in a region that had been expectedly calm until Saturday.
